Polestar continues to cut carbon footprint of its electric cars

New data released by Polestar shows the improvements the carmaker has made to the cradle-to-grave emissions of its EV models. The biggest contributors to GHG emissions are the extraction and processing that does into the steel, aluminium and batteries:

Aluminium

24%

Battery Module

24%

Steel

17%

Through the work that the brand is continuing to do around technological innovation and sustainable solutions, Polestar has confirmed that the environmental impact of its new Polestar3 SUV is smaller than that of the old 2020 Polestar2.

One of the biggest contributors to the fall has been the ability of the manufacturing plants to run exclusively on 100% renewable energy.

Currently produced out of China at Volvo's Chengdu manufacturing plant, production in North America is set to start from the middle of 2024 - both facilities will run purely on 100% renewable power.

Fredrika Klarén, Head of Sustainability at Polestar, says: “The majority of a vehicle’s greenhouse gas emissions stem from extracting and processing materials. As we accelerate the adoption of electric cars, there is a lot we can do to reduce their production-related emissions and strengthen the role of innovations and of electric cars as a climate solution, Polestar 3 is a testament to that.”
