Production starts for MINI Countryman Electric
The electric version of the new MINI Countryman has started to roll off the production line in Leipzig, Germany
The BMW Group plant in Leipzig, Germany has started to produce the all new MINI Countryman Electric, adding to the roster of EVs coming off the production line.
Up to 500 units per day of the new model are expected to drive off the production line during 2024, with the MINI Countryman Electric available in a choice of two versions - the Countryman E and Countryman SE ALL4. The latter comes with a power output of 150kW, while the SE ALL4 comes with 230kW of power.
To accommodate the new model and to add Gen 5 high-voltage battery production at Leipzig, BMW has converted the old space used for producing the iconic BMW i3 and i8 models to produce high-voltage batteries. This new capable means that BMW can produce up to 300,000 high-voltage batteries a year in Leipzig. Those batteries will end up in other BMW badged EVs too - including the BMW iX1, BMW i5 and BMW iX - all models assembled elsewhere.
Our cars and components are very much in demand. In recent years the BMW Group has invested around 1.6 billion euros in the Leipzig site to produce additional vehicles and electric components, and now we’re increasing vehicle volumes too
At the heart of the new MINI Countryman Electric is a 64.6 kWh battery which provides enough juice for a real world range estimate of 220 miles on a full charge. It can accept up to 130 kW of DC power at an ultra-rapid charger which means 10-80% recharge can take as little as 29 minutes. The more powerful SE ALL4 version comes with the same battery but consumes just a bit more energy which means that real world range drops slightly to an estimate of 210 miles on a full charge.
