Volkswagen to reveal new electric ID. Tiguan in October

The world premiere is scheduled for early October, with the production model expected to reach markets at the beginning of 2027. Volkswagen says the ID. Tiguan will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5, while the existing Tiguan will continue alongside it with combustion and hybrid powertrains.

That means Volkswagen is keeping the Tiguan name across different powertrain options rather than replacing the existing model outright. For drivers considering an electric SUV, the new model will therefore sit within a broader Tiguan line-up rather than marking the end of the name’s petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions.

A new electric SUV for the Tiguan name

The ID. Tiguan is being positioned as a new-generation electric SUV, with Volkswagen saying its design gives it the visual presence of a vehicle from the segment above.

The company has not yet released full technical specifications for the production model, including details such as battery capacity, driving range, charging performance, pricing or UK trim levels. Those details are likely to become clearer around the October unveiling.

Volkswagen says the model will bring together the existing Tiguan’s focus on space and versatility with an electric powertrain and new technology. The claims come from the manufacturer and should be treated as such until the production car’s specifications are confirmed.

The move follows Volkswagen’s broader decision to use familiar model names for some of its next-generation electric cars. The ID. Polo and ID. Cross are also part of this naming strategy, according to the company.

Tiguan remains a major model for Volkswagen

The scale of the Tiguan name helps explain why Volkswagen is carrying it into its electric range. According to Volkswagen, more than 8.3 million Tiguan vehicles have been produced to date.

The company also says the Tiguan is currently its best-selling model worldwide, with the Tiguan and related Tayron models together accounting for more than one million deliveries over the past year.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen reports that more than 950,000 ID.4 and ID.5 models have been delivered since 2021, making them an important part of its existing battery-electric line-up.

The new ID. Tiguan will add another established name to that range when it reaches markets in early 2027. More information on its specifications, pricing and UK availability is expected when the vehicle is officially unveiled.
