DriveElectric brings electric car options to Orkney Islands Council

The event gave council employees the chance to get a closer look at four electric car options: the Škoda Enyaq, Kia EV3, MG4 and Kia EV5. It was an opportunity to explore the vehicles, ask questions and find out more about making the switch to electric.

DriveElectric colleagues Evie and Ellie attended to talk through the vehicles and explain how the scheme works, with the cars supplied for the event by John Clark Motor Group.

The showcase marks another step in DriveElectric's ongoing relationship with ReFLEX Orkney, which has supported the development of local electric vehicle initiatives over a number of years.

Bringing the benefits of electric motoring closer to home

The event formed part of the introduction of a new employee Salary Sacrifice benefit for Orkney, supported locally by ReFLEX Orkney.

Through the scheme, eligible employees can choose a new or used electric car, with the monthly lease cost taken from their gross salary. Because the deduction is made before Income Tax and National Insurance are calculated, employees can benefit from tax and National Insurance savings, subject to their individual circumstances and scheme eligibility.

For employers, Salary Sacrifice can also offer savings on employer National Insurance contributions, while providing an additional benefit to employees.

The scheme is designed to make the transition to electric motoring more accessible, combining the financial benefits of Salary Sacrifice with local support from ReFLEX Orkney.

Exploring the electric options

Having four vehicles available to view in person gave employees an opportunity to explore different electric car styles, compare their features and consider which might best suit their everyday journeys.

The line-up included the Škoda Enyaq, Kia EV3, MG4 and Kia EV5, offering a range of options for drivers with different requirements, from everyday commuting to family motoring.

The Skoda Enyaq 85 Edition, for example, features an 84kWh battery and has an estimated real-world range of 318 miles, according to the specification presented for the event. Its practical SUV format and driver assistance features make it one of the options available through the scheme.

For anyone considering an electric car, being able to see different models up close and talk through the practicalities can be a useful part of the decision-making process.
