Jaguar Type 01 brings up to 1,030PS and 450 miles of range to the brand’s new electric era

Jaguar has revealed the production version of its Type 01, a four-door electric GT and the first of a new generation of Jaguars. We've been patiently waiting for an update on their new electric cars since their bold and slightly divisive rebrand in 2024.

Designed, developed and built in the UK, the Type 01 sits on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). The dedicated platform has let Jaguar rethink the car’s proportions, resulting in a long, low GT with a distinctive silhouette and an unusually spacious-looking cabin.

Jaguar has not taken a conservative approach to performance. The Type 01 uses three electric motors with Intelligent Torque Vectoring, producing up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm of torque.

That gives it a claimed 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds, Jaguar says the car has been engineered to deliver more than straight-line speed, with a 50:50 weight distribution and a focus on maintaining the brand's traditional emphasis on driver involvement.

A new platform for Jaguar

The Type 01’s proportions are one of the clearest signs that Jaguar has started again rather than simply electrifying an existing model.

The car has a long bonnet, low roofline and clean body surfaces. Jaguar says the design began on a blank sheet of paper before being refined in the wind tunnel, and claims it’s the most aerodynamic car it has made. The new architecture has also let designers keep the low-slung look of a traditional GT while fitting an electric drivetrain and four doors.

Jaguar says more than 360 patent applications are associated with the technology and engineering behind the car.

The Type 01 is also intended to show that a large electric GT doesn’t have to be all about outright performance. It's described as a car with two distinct characters, combining deep reserves of power with refined comfort.

Up to 450 miles of range

Underneath the Type 01 is a 118kWh battery paired with an 850-volt electrical architecture.

Jaguar's estimates, ahead of full certification, put the Type 01 at up to 450 miles of WLTP range and an anticipated EPA range of up to 400 miles. Real-world range will vary with driving style, conditions, load and wheel fitment.

Charging performance is another important part of the car’s long-distance credentials. Using a 350kW rapid DC charger, Jaguar says the Type 01 can add up to 200 miles of range in as little as 13 minutes, though charging times will vary with battery temperature, state of charge and the charger used.

That combination of range and charging speed puts the Type 01 firmly into the growing market for premium electric cars designed to make long-distance travel less dependent on frequent charging stops.

A very different Jaguar interior

Inside, Jaguar has taken the opportunity to move away from the conventional layout found in its previous-generation cars.

A central spine runs the length of the cabin, creating individual spaces for the four occupants. Brass-inspired elements run along the interior, while a 24-inch OLED screen sits in front of the driver. A separate seven-inch display between the driver and front passenger provides access to frequently used controls.

The cabin also features a full-width Panoramic Soundbar and Sensory Audio seats, which together form an immersive audio system intended to make the interior feel more like a private space than a traditional car cabin.

Outside, the Fender Ingot incorporates the famous Jaguar leaper, and the gloss and satin finishes are intended to emphasise the car’s clean bodywork.

The Type 01 is more than a replacement for an existing model. It’s the start of Jaguar’s new electric design and engineering direction, and the brand is aiming to establish a different identity for its next generation of cars.

For UK drivers and fleets, the Type 01 will be a very premium proposition, with Jaguar targeting the luxury GT market rather than the mainstream EV segment. Its combination of performance, long range and four-door practicality puts it up against some of the most expensive electric cars on the market.

Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first deliveries anticipated in the second half of the year.
