Skoda's new Camp Mode means you could sleep in the car, and actually be comfortable
With the UK enjoying a proper run of sunshine this summer, a new update from Skoda has landed at a good time. The manufacturer is rolling out Camp Mode in the MySkoda app, a feature that keeps an EV's cabin at a chosen temperature during longer breaks and overnight stays.
How does it work?
It works by switching on the car's air conditioning remotely from the app and holding the interior at whatever temperature you've set, including through the night. For anyone who's ever tried to nap in a hot car at a festival, a beauty spot, or a service station car park, this is a small change that solves a genuinely annoying problem.

Who gets it, and what it needs
Camp Mode is coming to Skoda's full electric line-up; Epiq, Elroq, Enyaq and Peaq, this feature will be available regardless of the age of the car or its current software version, as long as Skoda Connect services are active. It arrives with version 8.14 of the MySkoda app, so there's no need to book the car in anywhere to get it.
The only real requirement is charge: Skoda's asking for at least 30% battery before you can use it, which makes sense given the feature is designed to run for hours at a time.
Useful for a summer road trip
We're always looking for the small, practical reasons an EV makes life easier, and this is a good one. If you're driving somewhere scenic this summer and fancy stopping overnight without booking a room, a heatwave doesn't have to rule that out. Set your temperature, let the car do the work, and you can actually get some sleep.
It's not going to replace a proper bed for a week away, but for a one-night stop halfway through a longer drive, or a spontaneous decision to stay a bit longer somewhere nice, it's a useful bit of flexibility.
