Smart unveils the new smart #3 SUV coupé

Smart announces the release of the Smart #3 SUV coupé, a new entry-level trim that will go on sale in the UK in early 2024 and start at just £32,950.

The all-electric smart #3 SUV coupé will be priced from £32,950, thanks to a new entry-level trim, the #3 Pro. Other trim levels are Pro+, Premium, and BRABUS, and sales are due to start in early 2024.

The new #3 Pro model still offers a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of just 5.8 seconds, along with a (WLTP) 202-mile electric driving range from its 49 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

The next #3 trim level is the Pro+, which is available for £36,950. The Pro+ has a larger 66 kWh lithium nickel cobalt manganese battery (NCM) battery. This gives an electric driving range of (W|LTP) 270 miles, and it can be ultra-rapid charged at up to 150 kW, whereas the #3 Pro has a slightly lower maximum rapid charging rate of 130 kW.

The smart #3 Premium costs £39,950; it comes with the same 66 kWh battery as the Pro+ model, but has a slightly longer range, at (WLTP) 283 miles. A limited-run 25th Anniversary Edition costs £40,950 and has the same (WLTP) 283-mile battery range and 150 kW ultra-rapid charging capability as the Pro+ model.

Top of the smart #3 range is the BRABUS model, costing £45,450. This shares the same 66 kWh battery and 150 kW ultra-rapid charging capability, but has slightly less range, at 258 miles. The big news about the BRABUS model is its performance. The front electric motor produces 115 kW, and the rear motor has an output of 200 kW, giving a total system power of 315 kW, along with all-wheel drive. This translates to a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 3.7 seconds, which is sports car territory.

Compared to the smart #1, the smart #3 has a lower centre of gravity and a lower seating position. The suspension has also been tweaked to give a sportier feel and to minimise body roll during cornering, with optimised spring rates, a modified shock absorber set-up and stiffer stabiliser bars on the front and rear axles.

The smart #3 has a 12.8-inch full HD infotainment display with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and over-the-air (OTA) capability, a panoramic halo roof, and a 370-litre boot, or up to 1,160 litres with the rear seats folded.
