Porsche takes wraps off Macan EV
Performance carmaker Porsche has revealed all the details of its forthcoming all electric version of the Macan.
Porsche has confirmed there are two versions of the Macan available to order in the UK - the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo - with first UK deliveries expected in the second half of 2024.
Joining the Taycan in the EV stable, the Macan is getting the all electric treatment as the carmaker prepares to launch the second generation of its compact SUV.
According to Porsche, their aim is to make the Macan Turbo and the sportiest compact SUV on the market - thanks to it being capable of sprinting from zero to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds. The Turbo comes with an impressive 470 kW of power, with two electric motors providing power to all four wheels. It's a similar story for the cheaper Macan 4, which also comes with all-wheel drive with two electric motors, but develops up to 300 kW.
The electric juice is stored in a 95kWh battery pack, complete with 800-volt architecture (a first for Porsche), which gives both models long-distance and ultra-rapid DC charging capability. The Macan 4 has a slightly longer WLTP range of 381 miles, while the powerful Macan Turbo weighs in at 367 miles. In the real world we're expecting both versions to have over 300 mile ranges.
At an ultra-rapid DC charging unit (typically ones that have up to 350 kW advertised) the Porsche Macan can accept up to 270 kW of power - depending on circumstances including battery temp, battery state of charge and rapid charger usage. So under optimal circumstances, the Macan can go from 10% capacity to 80% capacity in as little as 21 minutes. On 400-volt rapid charger units, the Macan can accept up to 135 kW of DC power.
As you'd expect from a premium model the Macan comes complete with a host of luxurious touches - including an optional extra for the front seat passenger of a dedicated 10.9-inch screen capable of streaming content while the car is in motion.
Since first being introduced in 2014, the Porsche Macan has sold over 800,000 units across the globe. Built in Germany at a carbon-neutral facility.
