Renault Megane E-Tech 100% electric gains new heat pump

Renault has introduced a new top-of-the-range ‘Iconic’ trim on its Megane E-Tech 100% electric range, with the main new highlight being a heat pump, as well featuring as the equipment of the limited version Launch Edition, and a wider choice of colours.

The Megane E-Tech 100% electric has an electric driving range of up to 280 miles (WLTP). Renault says that its new heat pump is more efficient than other heat pumps, and can help to increase the electric driving range by up to 9% when the outside temperature falls below 10 degrees.

The heat pump takes heat from the battery and electric motor – twice as efficiently as other systems, says Renault – and uses this to warm the cabin, so saving on cabin heating and battery depletion, therefore improving driving range.

The heat recovery is captured by a circuit of pipes that run through the entire battery and motor. This occurs when the battery and electric motor are under heavy load, such as during rapid recharging or when driving on motorways.

The Iconic specification also features a greater choice of colours than the Launch Edition. The body colour options range across solid, metallic, or special metallic paints, and are comprised of glacier white, diamond black, shadow grey, ceramic grey and midnight blue. Customers can also choose from two-tone paint options, with diamond black or shadow grey on the roof.

Other equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a smart rear-view mirror, and a surround view 3D camera system. The Megane E-Tech 100% electric also features a 12.3-inch dashboard display, a 9-inch multimedia display, and Android Automotive OS with integrated Google services from the Techno trim upwards.
