WhatCar? Of the Year 2022 Announced – It’s an EV!
The excellent Kia EV6 has been crowned Car of the Year 2022 at the WhatCar? Awards, marking the second time the Korean manufacturer has won the prestigious award with an electric vehicle.
Why did the Kia EV6 win Car of the Year 2022?
The Kia EV6 GT-Line impressed WhatCar? judges for its 328 mile WLTP range. But they did some low temperature, worst-case scenario testing, and were even more impressed with the results: 224 miles on a single charge.
Its uber-fast 250kW charging was also a deciding factor – allowing the EV6 to go from 10-80% battery in around 18 minutes, granting it 250 miles of range. The car’s charging system is clever, too. A new ‘vehicle-to-load’ function allows the car to supply up to 3.6kW of power, allowing the EV6 to charge another EV if necessary.
It’s good news inside the cabin as well. Judges noted how spacious the EV6 is, along with all of the tech and features the GT-Line comes with. A comprehensive infotainment system via the 12.3” display screen, automatic headlights and wipers, memory foam seats, parking cameras and sensors – the list goes on.
All of the above is backed by Kia’s benchmark 7-year warranty, which continues to impress judges and customers alike. The peace-of-mind offering is industry-leading and has (rightfully) earnt Kia lots of praise.
After winning the Car of the Year Award in 2019 with the equally brilliant e-Niro, it’s great to see Kia getting recognition for the excellent vehicles they’re bringing to the EV market. Other notable winners included the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, giving Elon Musk the ‘Large Electric Car of the Year’ trophy to add to his (presumably ginormous) mantlepiece. The brilliant Cupra Born scooped up ‘Small Electric Car of the Year’ too.
