Kia's been on a roll with their electric vehicles, and the EV4 is certainly no exception. It's the latest exciting addition to their line-up, fitting comfortably between the nippy Kia EV3 and their celebrated larger SUVs, the Kia EV6 and Kia EV9. Kia's 'Opposites United' design philosophy is truly shining here, blending a sharp, forward-thinking look with smart tech and efficiency that simply works. This car isn't just here to fill a gap; it's ready to offer a real alternative to popular electric options like the Tesla Model 3 and VW ID.3 for us UK drivers.
Kia EV4 design
So, what does it look like? Well, the Kia EV4 comes in two flavours: a practical hatchback and a rather stylish fastback saloon. Both share that bold, aerodynamic look Kia's become known for, think crisp lines, eye-catching LED lights, and a sculpted finish that really stands out. If you're after everyday practicality, the hatchback (around 4.4 metres long) offers a decent 435 litres of boot space. Need a bit more room? The fastback saloon, which is a touch longer, gives you a generous 490 litres. Little touches like those clever flush door handles and active aero bits aren't just for show; they genuinely help boost the EV4's efficiency and range.
Kia EV4 Performance & Range: driving further than any Kia EV yet
Underneath, the EV4 uses Kia's well-regarded 400V Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), giving you a choice of battery sizes to fit how you drive. The entry-level 'Air' model, with its 58.3 kWh battery, promises a very usable WLTP range of up to 273 miles. If you're doing longer trips, the larger 81.4 kWh battery really stretches that, offering an impressive WLTP range of up to 388 miles for the hatchback and 380 miles for the Fastback. This makes the EV4 Kia's longest-range electric vehicle to date, a truly standout feature.

While official WLTP figures are a great benchmark, we know you're interested in everyday driving. For the long-range battery, you can expect an estimated real-world range of around 295 miles, though this will vary with driving style, speed, and conditions – something our team is always happy to discuss honestly. All models come with a single front-mounted electric motor, delivering a healthy 201bhp. That means a lively drive, hitting 0-62mph in about 7.4 to 7.9 seconds – enough to feel nippy around town and capable on the motorway.

And charging? It's speedy. Hook up to a powerful 350kW rapid charger, and you could go from 10% to 80% in a mere 29 to 31 minutes. For home charging overnight, an 11kW AC charger will get that long-range battery full in about 7 hours and 15 minutes. Plus, for those outdoor adventures or even just powering a laptop on the go, the EV4's Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature is a real bonus, letting you plug in devices directly to the car's battery.
