Next-Gen Nissan LEAF: British-built EV icon returns with more range and smarter tech

Nissan has now officially unveiled the third-generation LEAF builds on the legacy of its predecessor, the world’s first mass-market EV with a fully reimagined design and cutting-edge features aimed at everyday drivers and long-distance travellers alike.

Up to 375 miles on a single charge

One of the biggest headlines is the impressive range: drivers can now go up to 375 miles (WLTP) on a single charge thanks to the larger 75kWh battery option. A 52kWh battery is also available for those with lighter daily driving needs, offering a range of up to 270 miles. Thanks to rapid 150kW DC charging capability, the LEAF can regain up to 260 miles of range in just 30 minutes - ideal for quick pit stops.

Clever tech ensures that the car preps its battery temperature before reaching a fast charger, ensuring quicker and more efficient top-ups are a big step towards making EV road trips easier than ever.

British-built for a greener future

The new LEAF is proudly built at Nissan’s Sunderland plant, part of the company’s EV36Zero hub - a blueprint for sustainable, zero-emission vehicle manufacturing powered by renewable energy. This makes the LEAF not just an electric car, but a symbol of the UK’s growing role in the future of green mobility.

Sleek, aerodynamic design

Designed in Japan but tuned specifically for European roads, the LEAF’s exterior has been completely reworked into a sleek, aerodynamic crossover shape that boasts a drag coefficient of just 0.25 helping to maximise range and performance.

Despite its compact footprint its perfect for city streets and tight parking spots the LEAF offers a surprisingly spacious interior, with 437 litres of boot space and a flexible cargo area for everyday practicality. A powered liftgate and optional roof rails add to its versatility.

Smarter, more connected tech

Inside, the LEAF gets a serious tech upgrade. Google built-in powers the twin 14.3-inch digital screens, giving drivers direct access to Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store without needing their phone. Voice control for navigation, climate, and media is standard, along with a suite of driver aids including ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link, e-Pedal Step, and a 3D Around View® Monitor for effortless manoeuvring.

A clever Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature also lets you power small devices — such as lights, laptops, or even a kettle — directly from the car, perfect for camping or working on the go. Future-ready Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capability means the LEAF could one day help power your home or return energy to the grid, lowering energy bills.

Built on Nissan’s CMF-EV platform (shared with the Ariya), the LEAF offers a more stable and refined ride, with improved suspension and noise insulation. Adjustable regenerative braking paddles and smooth one-pedal driving make city driving easy, while long-distance comfort is enhanced with ergonomic seating, a panoramic glass roof, and ambient lighting throughout the cabin.

UK orders for the new Nissan LEAF will open in autumn 2025, with first customer deliveries expected in spring 2026. Whether you’re making the switch to your first electric car or upgrading to a new model, the LEAF remains one of the most compelling choices for British drivers - now smarter, sleeker, and more capable than ever.
