A practical, stylish electric city car from Volkswagen…
January seems to be the month for electric city car launches; first the ŠKODA CITIGOe iV and now VW’s upgraded e-Up! is available to lease, & we will have pricing VERY soon.
The e-Up! is the electric version of VW’s popular mini hatchback and seats 4 people. First launched in 2013 this latest e-Up! will be the third generation of this car, production began late in 2019 and the first UK deliveries are scheduled for early 2020.
Vehicle features & technology
e-Up! arrives with a wealth of equipment as standard:
- Apple or android smartphone connectivity
- ‘C’ signature LED daytime running lights
- 15 inch ‘blade’ alloy wheels
- Lane assist
- 3-pin and type 2 charging cables included as standard
- Heated front windscreen
- Heated front seats
- & lots more!
e-Up! has a 37kWh battery.
e-Up! has an official WLTP rating of 162 miles range, however taking “real-world” driving conditions into account we feel that a range of around 125 miles per charge is more accurate. If you’re curious about range take a look at our helpful guide: “Electric vehicle range: everything you need to know”
We’ve put together a driving range comparison with some other popular models of electric city cars and hatchbacks below (all figures are official WLTP ratings):
When charging this electric vehicle, you access the right side rear charging port and plug in via a Type 2 (generally for home charging) or CCS (rapid charging) connection. This e-Up! has a max 40kW charging speed, so when you’re out and about to topping up on a rapid charger your e-Up’s battery can be filled to from 10% to 80% capacity in approximately 48 minutes.
On a typical home charger (charging speed = 7kW) the e-Up! will reach 100% battery charge in 5 hours 30 mins. For more on charging read our handy guide: “How long does it take to charge an electric car?”
