Clean air day takes place today (Thursday 20th June 2019), its aim is to raise awareness of air pollution and the impact exposure has on us all. First launched in 2017, the day celebrates the small ways we can reduce our footprint and improve the air quality in our community. There is lots of information and advice available an the Clean Air Day website.
As a company who are always looking to reduce our carbon footprint and make the world a better place for everyone Clean Air Day is important to us.
55% of DriveElectric have a low carbon commute already (Chart 1): we have pure electric, plug-in hybrid drivers and a couple of the team walk or cycle in.
Of those who do drive 50% of them are electric vehicle drivers already, we have also improved our remote working systems a lot in the last 12 months so working from home is possible, this also helps to reduce our commuter carbon as a business, and offers greater more flexibility for the team!
For Clean Air Day this year some of the team who’s commute isn’t via an electric car (or within walking distance) have pledged to either test working from home for the day or taking public transport (thanks Ellen and Gemma!) That’ll take the DriveElectric team to just over 60% low carbon commuters for the day (chart 2), and small changes can make a big difference if a lot of people across the country take part!
Next year we will aim to get even more of the team commuting in a more environmentally friendly way on Clean Air Day by cycling, lift sharing, walking, taking public transport or trying an electric vehicle #GoElectric #SmallChanges

During the week of Clean Air Day as well as being mindful of our contribution to local emissions DriveElectric will be getting involved in events which aim to increase knowledge and awareness for electric vehicles and EV charging for both businesses and individuals:
Wednesday 19th:
Yesterday we hosted an electric vehicle test drive event forEWiRE (Entrepreneurial Women in Renewable Energy). EWiRE is the UK’s vibrant network for women in clean energy, comprising of 500+ clean energy leaders and professionals. enables people and organisations to connect, learn and take action on gender diversity and inclusion. It was a pleasure to introduce some of our favourite electric vehicles to some first time electric car drivers.
Thursday 20th (Clean Air Day!):
Thursday 20th June (Clean Air Day!), Our business team are involved in the first session of Nottingham’s electric vehicle road show. The event will be touring Nottingham businesses throughout June and July 2019, with the first event starting on Clean Air Day at the NRG Business Park.
At the EV Roadshow events, there will be a selection of the latest electric vehicles on show, with a number of test drive opportunities available. As well as this, there will be an opportunity for one to one ‘ask the expert’ sessions for businesses to gain the knowledge needed to implement electric vehicles into their business.
Businesses or public sector organisations that would like to attend these free events should book via the ULEV Experience events page.
ZapMap have also put together a list Clean Air Day 2019: EV charging network offers with many offering free vends!
There’s lots of businesses and communities getting involved, check out the map below to see what’s going on across the country.
Please Note:
DriveElectric is not responsible for the running of any of the mapped events and cannot provide up to date information – if you would like more details please research the name of the organisation.
More events
Take an excursion to our events page to discover upcoming electric vehicle events and things to do… some we will be attending as ‘DriveElectric’ and some we’re heading to just for fun. We also post updates on prize draws and competitions we are running on this page (if you’re feeling lucky).
We’ve always found the EV community warm and welcoming so get involved if you can. As well as physical meet ups there are great EV owners groups on Facebook (the BMW i3 UK group on Facebook is particularly useful and chatty!) and there’s lots of activity on twitter too, so either virtually or ‘in real life’ we hope to see you there.
