The new Citroen ë-C4 X is a pretty French fastback
Dubbed an elegant fastback with SUV attitude, the Citroen e-C4 X stands as an alternative to medium-sized hatchbacks and SUVs.
Design
First things first; the looks. Citroen is targeting the e-C4 X as a unique alternative to the glut of EV hatchbacks and SUVs on the market. Its wheelbase is actually the same as the C4 hatchback, with the overall body length standing at 4,600mm - 240mm longer than the C4.
The sleek design isn’t just for looks either. With increased aerodynamic efficiency, the Citroen e-C4 X has a drag coefficient of 0.29. This helps maximise range and performance.
Neat touches such as LED lights on all four corners and large wheels add to the overall look of the car. The latter of which helps raise the ride height too, giving the driver a superior view of the road.
It’s a well proportioned and pretty looking car.
Drivetrain, Battery & Tech
The Citroen e-C4 X comes fitted with a 100kW powertrain, affording the fastback an official WLTP range of 223 miles from a single charge.
It may be fastback by name, but fast is definitely not in its nature. The drivetrain offers 136hp with 260Nm of torque, but with a 0-62mph time of 9.5s, the e-C4 X can’t be described as ‘blistering’.
A trio of driving modes allow the driving experience to be tweaked. Eco maximises range at the cost of performance, whilst Sport mode catapults the Citroen into a sub-10s 0-62mph time. Normal model balances the two.
Charging the Citroen e-C4 X is simple. A standard 7.4kW domestic home charger takes around 7.5 hours from completely flat to full. Utilise a 100kW rapid charger on the road and the battery can go from 0-80% in just 30 minutes. These accelerated charge times are in part thanks to clever battery pre-conditioning that can be set via the 10” HD infotainment screen.
Comfort with a capital C4 X
A highlight of the e-C4 X that Citroen is keen to promote, is the brand’s ‘Advanced Comfort Programme’. This umbrella term captures all of the individual efforts that Citroen has put into making the e-C4 X incredibly comfortable to drive.
The exclusive Advanced Comfort Seats are fitted with an extra 15mm later of memory foam, offering supreme support and and comfort on long drives. Backrests are wide with reinforced support, height and lumbar adjustment, shaping to whatever the person in the seat requires. Additionally, Advanced Comfort Suspension offers what Citroen deem an extra-terrestrial ride - or like a ‘magic carpet’ in their words.
In the rear of the cabin there’s class-leading legroom. The width of the e-C4 X makes it possible for three passengers to sit comfortably side-by-side, meaning no more squishing next to the person next to you. Neat cubby holes contribute to an additional 39-litres of storage space throughout, complimented by the 510-litre boot space.
Climate control is standard, along with toasty heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
