The DriveElectric team review the Volkswagen Golf Hatchback GTE plug-in hybrid
This plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is powerful, sporty and responsive, combining GTI dynamics with e-Golf sustainability and economy. Drive up to 31 miles when fully charged in all-electric mode, and up to 580 miles when petrol and electric are combined (depending on driving style and conditions)
Hi everyone, my name is Jack and I am the proud owner of this Volkswagen Golf GTI.
I’m just going to be walking around the car today, sharing with you some of my favourite features and what it’s been like to own the car.
My favourite thing about this right off the bat is just the look of it, the interior this car for me is just as a main selling point. It’s so impressive it’s very very chic very sharp. You’ll see throughout the entire car a little blue accent, when you open the doors again a lovely feature that they’ve got these little blue strips, especially at night really look quite cool.
Obviously one of the key features about this car is that it is a GTE, it has a hybrid engine in there which is the same as in the petrol version of the Golf.
It’s the middle of winter at the moment and I’ve been getting around 20 to 25 miles range which is fantastic for me as my commutes only around about 11 miles.
I can get home and back really efficiently on the battery charge and this is of course the E mode. It comes up with all different options on my screen, I can have pure electric mode, hybrid mode which is that sort of running both alongside each other. There’s is also a battery charge option whereby the wheels will generate from the regenerative power back into the battery, which was really great if you can’t get to a charge point straight away.
It’s saved me an absolute fortune I’ve owned this car for around about three months, I’ve only filled up around about four times so it’s been really good for my wallet. I lease this through a company car leasing scheme and I play a small benefiting kind Taxation on it as well. Very efficient, really good proposal for a business as you get massive tax
benefits from it.
It has a GTE mode which is awesome, what the GTE mode does is it increases the handling of the car and powers all of the engine power and the battery power into propelling the car forward
The power is almost like a sports mode.
When it’s on charge at home or I charge it at work, it has brilliant preheating function which will increases the range of the battery. You just go into the entertainment system
and you can set leaving times, for the home and work. So for myself, half eight in the morning half seven you and half-past five, so when you leave work you can get into a lovely warm
It comes with adaptive cruise control, so it will monitor the car in front and adapts your speed to match and obviously breaking alert and so on if they become too close.
It comes with this entertainment system which is very good you can have Bluetooth connectivity, you can have an aux cable plugged in for your music and radio as well. There’s an
additional extra of a sat-nav, which isn’t as standard but as an optional extra you can have.
Very much enjoying this car at the moment.
