Why the vehicle NEDC CO2 test needs to change:
I am today beside myself to see the Co2 Figs on the new Mercedes S Class Hybrid. This car has a 300+ BHP petrol V6 engine AND hybrid electric plug in drive. Can you guess the real world C02 on this car? Probably north of 130g/km ? I am not sure but the advertised 75g/km just shows how wrong the test for C02 is now.
As I understand it the NEDC test is over a 400 second cycle theoretically 7 km.
So even the paltry 18 mile electric only range will have a dramatic effect on this car. Something needs to be done about this – this car would qualify for the 100% discount on congestion charge. Boris you will be seeing a lot of these driving into town using mostly the petrol motor!!!
Did I miss the point of trying to reduce Co2 ?
